Family in progress . . .

“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”  Leo Tolstoy

I am working on this painting above for a show in Iowa at The Bereskin Art Gallery. It is a beautiful gallery and I had hoped to be there for the opening but unsure with a grand baby due about the same time. It will be a race for sure. Meanwhile I am finishing up some small paintings for the show. Shipping is in about 10 days, so it will be a race to get them dry.

I was reading in Psalm 16 and was moved by the beauty of words I have read before but just suddenly it spoke to me. We all want to be happy. But I cannot make you happy and you cannot make me happy… I know my grandmother always told me happiness came from doing for others. So as I read this and know we all seek happiness, JOY is better than happiness. We find JOY through God. Living our faith and serving, we are touched by the intimate joy God provides us as we follow in his word and his light by serving others. It is when we are busy with life and concerned with other things than ourselves, we are living his way with his word. It is the nearness of God that brings me comfort, solace, contentment and joy.

Psalm 16:2 “I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” It is only through Him we can find happiness and joy.

Psalm 16: 11 “In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever”
