My love for you...
“Flower petals in the breeze look like a butterfly flapping its wings. My love for you takes flight like a white orchid blushing pink.” ― Jarod Kintz, This Book is Not FOR SALE
We have made February... the month of love and another month for me filled with birthdays. I looked up on the internet to see where the origin of this holiday started, thinking perhaps this was just another HALLMARK holiday pushed by our economic frenzy to spend money! It actually hit the USA in the 1800's... but started years and years before this.
Here is what I found . "While some believe that Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death or burial–which probably occurred around A.D. 270–others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St. Valentine’s feast day in the middle of February in an effort to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Celebrated at the ides of February, or February 15, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.
To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification. They would then strip the goat’s hide into strips, dip them into the sacrificial blood and take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city’s bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage." Click here to read more.
Not sure what your plans may be, but it might be wise to be heart-ful this month. We all seem to yearn for someone to love us because there is an emptiness inside of us. We have to love God first and learn to love ourselves. You cannot give what you do not have to others... LOVE.
So when your heart is filled with love, only then you will receive great joy in sharing that love with others. When you give your love so abundantly and freely, the feeling of joy that comes from sharing it will be great. Your love continues to grow and expand. So if you feel the emptiness of not being love, it is time to shift your attention to your self and realize you have to love yourself first. What is in your own highest good? Make February the month you figure this out. Read more.
