Commission a Painting
Commission Artwork is welcome. Laurie requests certain information before taking on a project, including a list of favorite songs and authors among other things.
“After a long search for an artist with a distinctive style of painting, I commissioned Laurie Pace to create two large pieces for me. Laurie’s style of art captured the uniqueness of my horses; her style of art relating to the subject through color and energy brought each painting to life. “ Diane Holt, Washington, Texas
Sizes & Cost
Canvas Size -Measure your wall space and decide if you are framing the painting or not. Different frames take up space.
Canvas Depth - If you are not framing the painting, I will need to know the depth of the canvas you wish to hang. The painting will wrap around those edges giving it a finished look. If you are framing the painting, the depth will only be 3/4 inch canvas.
Favorite sayings, Bible Verses - On commissioned paintings I like to prepare the canvas with acrylic overlays and then I am willing to write in paint your favorite verses or sayings. The painting will take place over this. It gives the painting the 'foundation' of who you are.
Music - It is very important to me to paint while listening to music you enjoy. This brings your spirit into the process.
Oils - 90 percent of my paintings are oils. I use Holbein Duo Oils. They cannot be fully varnished for 18 months to 2 years from the completion of the painting. I will send the painting to you heavily coated with a pre-varnish to protect it. This should protect it for many years and later if you wish, you can buy a can of spray varnish for fine art and respray your painting.
Acrylic - 10 percent of my work is acrylic painting. I like it for the contemporary mixed media paintings where I layer up to twenty layers of glazing with the acrylics. All acrylic paintings come to you fully varnished.
Single Edition Book- With my commissions I create a Single Edition Collectors book just for you. It will trace the beginnings of the painting, sketches, and days of painting until the final varnish.
The Painting Process
Style - Choose three of your favorite Pace paintings so I know what you are attracted to.
Sayings, Books and Bible Verse - Send a list through email with your favorite verses or sayings. Also let me know what books you are reading.
Colors and Fabrics - It is not unusual for clients to send fabrics samples and paint samples.
Subject Approval - Many paintings will need some sketches to define area and composition. You must approve sketches before canvas is ordered.
Down Payment- After the final sketch is approved, and initial $500 downpayment is due before canvas is ordered. This $500 is not refundable once the painting begins.
Let the Painting Begin - Once the painting begins, I will email progress photos from my camera for the client to watch the process. It is imperative that you respond promptly as you receive the images. These are used in the hard back book.
Final Approval - Once the painting is complete, and the buyer is satisfied, the final payment for the painting is due.
Drying and Shipping- Drying time depends on temperatures outside and humidity. The finished painting is watched over as it dries. Once it is dry the pre-varnish is applied and the painting is prepared for shipping. Fedex is the shipper that is used and the painting must be signed for.
Read What my Collectors Say - Each collector that contacts me becomes part of my family. I will be collecting their comments and sharing them here.
