Working on the Shops
Saturday in the Studio, or be square.
Moving Day is April 15th. I am not sure how long it will take to get 'settled' in, but I have decided to open the doors no matter what to anyone that wants to reserve time to paint with me. It will be informal...just one or two at a time so we can work together and explore some ideas on painting.
I am not a demonstration teacher in the sense of do what I do and follow me because I have taught art for over 35 years and it is my job to inspire, teach and encourage you to find YOUR MUSE and your voice in your art. I have never painted or drawn on a student's work in my lifetime of teaching. I do not encourage you to paint like others, but to paint like YOU. Learning a technique is quite different than copying a demonstration. One of my favorite teachers that I took my mom to a class with is Nancy Medina. While she does do a demonstration, she does not do a paint and follow me piece. She is an excellent instructor and I highly recommend her classes.
The angle to my knife is to go a bit deeper inside of who you are. I love to use Picasso as an example. If you look at his painting periods, His first pieces are basically realism Blue Period 1903-1905, The Rose Period 1905-1906 Cubism 1907-1925, the Neo -Classicism 1920-1930, Surrealism 1926 forwards, A style reminiscent of stained glass 1932 onwards and an expressionistic element style 1938 and forward.
Always changing and growing with every learning phase he encountered. That is how an artist grows and deepens their work by expressing what is inside of them and letting go of all the 'have to rules' in art. The journey to painting is to engage your soul and your passion into each piece you do.
Gander through the paintings below to discover the diversity. Being an artist gives you permission to try different things and allow your spirit to have fun along the way. You can start with a story, a thought, a lesson, a record of a happening etc...but just try it in several styles. Find what makes your heart sing as you Paint. Contact me through the contact form and let me know if you want to come work with me. Do you live far or in the area? Give me some details. Laurie
