Sunlight on the Water . . .
“I want God to play in my bloodstream the way sunlight amuses itself on the water.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
The base layer of this painting had soft tones of color in it. I thought perhaps I would do a muted piece but for some reason my soul struggles to put out the color. It is like putting out the light. It is like forcing my nature to do something that does not feel comfortable. So I am not sure where this will go this week but will take you along with me.
After the soft layer was applied a week ago, I came into the studio and using caramel brown, sketched the horses into place. Then I began with brilliant yellow and not a white. Hard to tell. I felt the light coming from behind and then lighting the pathway for the horses... three of them.
The quote I chose really struck a chord in me this morning. The world, nature, man... cannot live without sunlight. Elizabeth wants God in her bloodstream, surging throughout her body lighting up her life in the same manner. What a beautiful analogy and one that vividly paints a picture in your mind to stay. Your blood streams throughout your body reaching every nook and cranny and God is part of that. He is not just in your mind, your heart, your thoughts...he is in every cell, and basically in every piece of your being.
"The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day." Proverbs 4:18
